Casa Grande Dispatch
The body of a former Casa Grande student was discovered near his pickup truck early Saturday morning after he apparently shot himself to death.
Pinal County sheriff’s deputies said the man, identified as 22-year-old Ricky Ronald Howell of Tempe, was found near Seed Farm Road and State Route 93 with a 30.06-caliber rifle lying beside him.
Howell had apparently put the gun into his mouth and pulled the trigger, deputies said. A suicide note found nearby gave no reason for his action, deputies said.
Also involved in the investigation were officers of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Gila River Indian police.
Howell was a 1971 graduate of Casa Grande Union High School and had been employed by his father at Howell Roofing Company in Casa Grande.
Howell is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H.L. “Bud” Howell, and his brother, Terry, all of Casa Grande; and by three sisters: Mrs. Charlotte Berry of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and Sandra Kay and Cherry Sue Howell, both of Casa Grande.
Visitation will be from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. today in Cole and Maud Mortuary chapel, 215 S. Washington St.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in East Resthaven Park cemetery, 4310 E. Southern, Phoenix.
